Relationship Counselling

The purpose of relationship counselling or couples therapy is to help understand the relationship issues you are facing and why they may be occurring. Communication issues, trust issues, worries of controlling or needy relationships, troubles with love and intimacy, major life transitions, parenting issues, dealing with a breakup, trouble finding a new relationship, and dealing with grief are all important areas. Each of these areas affect all types of relationships and need to be dealt with in the best way possible so that both or all people involved are not affected in a negative way.

In relationship counselling, we will work to understand the nature of the problems you want to address and work with you to develop and/ or improve communication styles, interpersonal effectiveness skills, and emotion regulation skills. It is helpful to understand your past and present relationships so that we can identify patterns in the ways your relationships present themselves. If you wish, we are able to work together with the other person in the relationship so that we may address concerns together and work on ways to improve communication and other issues that seem to be present.

Your first session involves initial assessment of your well being and a thorough intake of your personal history and background. Subsequent therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length, and are unique to each individual treatment plan.

What are relationship problems or relationship issues?

Relationships are a huge part of our every day lives, and can often come with struggles, setbacks, and conflicts. It is important to identify the relationships that are troubling you and to seek help with the ones you feel need improvement. These may involve your partner/ a couple, your family, your friends, and/ or your coworkers.
