Grief Counselling

Grief Counselling and Psychotherapy is aimed at helping you deal with feelings of sadness and emptiness, and to help you find closure. The thoughts and behaviours associated with grief can be very distressing. It is important to find different ways to cope during this difficult time, which will be the focus of counselling and psychotherapy sessions.

In grief counselling, we work together to understand the grief or trauma you are experiencing, whether it be the loss of a loved one, parent-child separation, divorce, losing a job, or having to end a significant friendship or relationship in your life.

What is Grief?

Grief refers to the feelings you experience when you have a loss, whether it is a death, a relationship, or a loss of something else that leaves a significant void in your life. Grief includes feelings such as: emptiness, anger, loneliness, despair, fear, regret, and pain. Each individual experiences the grieving process in different ways and stages, which vary in duration and severity. Some typical stages of the grieving process may include: denial/isolation, anger, bargaining/ attempt to regain control, depression, and acceptance. These can occur in the order listed here, or they can happen at different times for different people.

Your first session involves initial assessment of your well being and a thorough intake of your personal history and background. Subsequent therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length, and are unique to each individual treatment plan.
