Stress Management Counselling
In stress management counselling, we will work to understand the ways that you deal with stress. We will work on developing positive coping styles to manage and reduce stress, providing you with a range of tools and techniques to respond to unpredictable stressful events.
What is stress?
Stress is a feeling of being overwhelmed with one or more areas of your life, which can present psychological and physical symptoms.
Symptoms of stress may include:
– Memory problems
– Inability to concentrate
– Poor judgment
– Seeing only the negative
– Constant worrying
– Moodiness
– Irritability or short temper
– Agitation, inability to relax
– Feeling overwhelmed
– Depression or general unhappiness
– Eating more or less
– Sleeping too much or too little
– Using alcohol or drugs to cope with difficult situations
Stress is a normal part of everyone’s life, and it is important to deal with this feeling in an effective manner with effective coping styles. When you perceive something as stressful, your mind and body have automatic responses to those situations or events. This automatic response can be referred to as the ‘fight-or-flight’ response (to fight or flee from difficult situations).
Your first session involves initial assessment of your well being and a thorough intake of your personal history and background. Subsequent therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length, and are unique to each individual treatment plan.
